About "PAIMAN"

PAIMAN Alumni Trust is a non governmental, not for profit organization registered with the Joint Registrar of Islamabad Capital Territory under the Trust Act of 1882 on 8th March, 2004. The organization’s multi-faceted services encompass capacity building, economic and social development of community partners, research and advocacy, serving as a resource center for dissemination of updated information as well as serving a platform for civic action for positive change through community mobilization and advocacy. The organization since its establishment in 2004, has successfully implemented more than 100 projects in different sectors.

PAIMAN’s National Network and Linkages

PAIMAN’s has the largest network of socially and politically active women trainers, social mobilizers and researchers exists across Pakistan. PAIMAN undertakes national and international trainings of the network’s members in the art of leadership development, credible & transparent electoral process, gender mainstreaming, gender based violence, women’s role in transforming the political process, political agenda and political institutions, democracy & governance, advocacy, media relations, networking, micro-enterprise development and social cohesion.

Vision

PAIMAN envisions a progressive, tolerant, educated and dynamic civic society where sovereignty is reflected through empowered communities and motivated individuals; where law and order guarantees fundamental rights of each individual regardless of gender, creed, age, social status, religion, political beliefs or physical attribute.

Mission

PAIMAN’s main mission is to serve as a link between people and their communities with opportunities through meaningful initiatives that change their lives for the better. It aims to provide through its research, capacity building and support services and advocacy the relevant connectivity between problems of community development and substantive solutions.

Aims and Objectives

  • To eradicate injustice, poverty, disharmony and conflicts from society.
  • To work for lifting the social, economical and political status of women and youth.

Shafqat Mehmood

Chairperson

Mr. Shafqat Mehmood is the Chairperson and founder of PAIMAN Alumni Trust. He has served in the defense forces for thirty three years and retired in 2001 as a Brigadier. He holds a masters degree in Strategic studies and is a graduate of Staff College, Toronto, Canada. To his credit, he has a variety of professional courses in management, governance, strategic planning, conflict transformation and peace building. After his retirement in 2001, he led a UN project of women’s political participation in Pakistan which inspired him to work for women emancipation and social empowerment thus in 2004 he founded PAIMAN Alumni Trust.

Tariq Saeed

Mr. Tariq Saeed is a dedicated and passionate social activist with over 20 years of experience in advocating for community development and social justice. With a strong background in construction and real estate development, he has successfully led numerous projects aimed at improving infrastructure and housing for underserved communities. His commitment to social causes is complemented by a deep understanding of sustainable development practices. As a member of the Board of Directors, Mr. Saeed brings a unique perspective that bridges social impact with practical construction solutions. He is driven by a vision of building a better, more equitable future for all.

Mosarrat Qadeem

Executive Secretary to the Board

Mossarat Qadeem, Executive Director of PAIMAN Alumni Trust, is a pioneer in Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE), interfaith harmony, and Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) in Pakistan. An internationally recognized expert, she has addressed the UN General Assembly and Security Council and is member of WASL and the Commonwealth Women Mediators Network. With a Ph.D. in International Politics and a visiting fellowship at LSE, she blends academic rigor with practical expertise. A prolific author and speaker, she has received numerous accolades, including the UN N-Peace Award and Fatima Jinnah Award.

Shabana Fayyaz

Ms. Shabana Fayyaz is a distinguished professor at the Defense and Strategic Studies Department of Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, with over 25 years of experience in the teaching profession. She has made significant contributions to academia, specializing in defense and strategic studies. Beyond her academic role, Ms. Fayyaz is the coordinator of the Pakistan chapter of Women Without Borders, advocating for women's empowerment and security. She also serves on the advisory board of the Peace and Collaborative Development Network. Her expertise in education, gender advocacy, and peace development makes her a valuable member of the Board of Directors.

Shafqat Ali

Mr. Shafqat Ali is a seasoned businessman, bringing a wealth of expertise in strategic planning and organizational growth. He is also a dedicated social worker, actively involved in various community development initiatives aimed at improving the lives of underserved populations. Having served as an elected representative (Nazim) of Union Council (107) Basalli, Mr. Shafqat Ali has a deep understanding of local governance and public service. His unique blend of business acumen, social responsibility, and leadership makes him an invaluable asset to the Board of Directors. He is committed to fostering positive change and development at both community and organizational levels.

Amir Riaz

Mr. Aamir Riaz brings 20 years of professional experience in research, with a strong focus on social and political issues. He is an acclaimed columnist, contributing to leading newspapers and journals, offering insightful analysis on contemporary topics. Mr. Riaz has edited and published numerous books, showcasing his expertise in the field. He has also provided consulting services to national and international organizations, including USAID, DFID, GTZ, UNDP, CIDA, Federal Ministry of Education and various government departments. His diverse background in research, writing, and consultancy makes him a highly valuable member of the Board of Directors.

Saira Zafar

Mrs. Saira Zaffar is a distinguished member of the Board of Directors for the Trust, bringing with her over 15 years of experience as an educationist and social activist. Her career is marked by a deep commitment to empowering communities through education and social welfare initiatives. Mrs. Zaffar has worked extensively to improve access to quality education, particularly for marginalized groups. Her passion for social change is reflected in her active involvement in various grassroots programs. With a strong leadership background, she continues to inspire and guide efforts that promote positive social impact.

Kamran Iqbal

Mr. Kamran Iqbal is a respected member of the Board of Directors for the Trust, bringing 25 years of experience as both a social worker and a successful businessman. His career is defined by his dedication to social development and community upliftment through various philanthropic initiatives. Mr. Iqbal has been instrumental in launching and supporting programs aimed at improving the lives of underprivileged groups. With his strong business acumen, he also focuses on sustainable development projects that create lasting impact. His leadership and vision continue to drive meaningful change in the Trust’s endeavors.
